Luxury Safari Packing List

Planning a Botswana safari can be a daunting task, right? Especially when you are visiting for the first time and don’t know what to expect on a safari, and what to pack. Luckily for you, I have been on a luxury safari in Botswana, and I have come to learn what is a must-have on a luxury safari packing list and what is just an extra.

In this post, you are going to learn about luxury safari packing list, and more.

After reading this post, you will have an easier time packing for your Botswana adventure, avoiding overpacking and forgetting essential items.

This post is all about luxury safari packing list

Best luxury safari packing list

1. Silk long-sleeve shirt

As with any safari packing list, a lightweight long-sleeve shirt is a must-have item. A nice breathable shirt, ideally with a neutral colour, is a recommended choice. I particularly like olive because it blends well with the bush.

If you want that luxury look and feel, opt for a silk shirt. Furthermore, pack a crisp white shirt to add contrast to your outfit while you are around camp.

2. Tailored lightweight safari pants

First things first, your luxury safari packing list will obviously include safari pants. And if you want to travel in style, you can have these tailor-made for you. However, you can find good quality men’s trousers on Amazon.

As for safari packing list women, there are some high-quality pants on Amazon as well.

3. Cashmere sweater

One of the safari essentials, especially if you are travelling during the peak season, is a sweater or light jacket. Since you will be on a luxury safari, you might want that luxury feel to your outfit, and a cashmere sweater is the way to go.

4. Luxury safari packing list: Camera

All in one camera I use for all my safari pictures

If you are going on a luxury safari holiday in Botswana, I highly recommend you bring a camera. I use the Sony RX10 IV, and I highly recommend it because it’s so portable and doesn’t require changing lenses, which is a big plus. After all, events can unfold quickly and unexpectedly in the wild, leaving you no time to change lenses for a great shot.

Although there are still high-quality second-hand cameras for this model, it is apparently no longer being manufactured, so you might not be able to buy a new one.

5. Evening wear

You might be wondering, “What do I wear on a safari in Botswana in the evening when I’m not on a game drive? Well, this is where you can wear your white shirt, for example. You can pair that with some shorts.

Furthermore, a flowy dress is a perfect addition to women’s safari packing list. It is fantastic for a candlelit dinner, which is the norm on a Botswana luxury safari.

6. Luxury safari packing list: Loafers

Pondering what to pack for safari? I know, the safari packing list can become long quickly. For instance, just talking about shoes, you have options like long boots, short boots, trainers, etc. I say, no matter what you decide on shoes, always pack loafers.

Loafers are comfortable and practical, and the right pair blends style with everyday comfort.

7. Luxury safari packing list: Boots

Knee-high boots, a luxury travel win!

Now, boots are not only a safari essential but also a fashion statement. They will elevate and complete that cute safari costume. These can be ankle-high boots or knee-high boots, depending on your style and the time of year you are travelling.

I love ankle-high boots because I can still wear them year-round, unlike knee-high boots, which are impractical in the summer months.

8. Silk Pyjamas

After a busy day of exploring the wilderness, slipping into a pair of fine silk pyjamas completes the day’s luxury experience. Furthermore, silk pyjamas are light and breathable, which is ideal given Botswana’s hot climate.

9. Binoculars

These are not an absolute must-have; however, high-end binoculars allow you to view wildlife clearly from a distance. I do not own binoculars, and there have been a few times on a safari when I wished  I did.

For example, we went on a game drive in Chobe National Park, where you cannot drive off-road to get close to the animals. In this instance, we could see lions quite far off, and there was no way we could get closer. Had I had a pair of binoculars, I would have had a much better view.

Shop Celestron binoculars on Amazon, they are a great quality. Additionally, you have plenty of options on there.

10. Cashmere travel wrap

As you are pondering what to pack for a luxury African safari, don’t forget to include a travel wrap. On a luxury safari, comfort is a priority, and a good cashmere travel wrap delivers just that without bulk—plus,  it layers beautifully over your safari clothing.

11. Stocked up toiletry bag

Although some luxury safari resorts will offer these items, it’s always a good idea to have a stocked toiletry bag when you go on an African safari. To protect yourself from the elements, make sure to include high-end SPF sunscreen, skin care essentials, hand cream and lip moisturiser.
