Sable Alley Reviews
Location
This beautiful camp is located in the Khwai Private Reserve, in the Okavango Delta. This is such a superb location for animal sightings or for exclusivity.
However, since this location is quite remote, some people may find that a downside, but I promise you it is locations like this that give you the authentic African safari experience. I truly love the remoteness of this camp, away from it all.
How to get to Sable Alley Camp

This camp is located in the Okavango Delta, so Getting to the Okavango Delta can be done by flying, self driving or taking a guided tour, depending on your departure location.
How do I get there myself? I usually travel from Gaborone to Maun. Then, from Maun, I take a bush plane, which is the quickest way to get there. Travelling from Gaborone to Okavango is not difficult.
The only downside of using the charter plane is the price; they tend to be pricey. Next time I visit, I’ll be sure to travel by road.
Another option is to get to Maun, then hire a driver to drop you off at the camp; it is cheaper that way. However, please keep in mind that it can only be a drop-off, as self-driving safaris are not allowed in the Khwai reserve.
The drive duration will take about 4 hours, similar to Tuludi Camp, which is very doable.
First Impression
The first thing I noticed was that it was much busier than Tuludi camp, for example. One of the staff members explained that it has always been like this; it is the busiest camp in the reserve.
Anyway, as always, the Okavango Delta camps do not disappoint. I was impressed. Sable Alley is such a beautiful camp. As impressive as Sable Alley is, I still think Tuludi camp takes the top spot.
In case you were wondering, ‘Is Sable Alley a luxury camp?’ The answer is yes!!
Sable Alley Reviews: The property

Sabe Alley, the sister camp to Little Sable Botswana, is located in a private concession bordering Moremi Game Reserve. What makes Sable Alley unique is its permanent lagoon, a major attraction for both visitors and animals.
This lagoon attracts a variety of animals. I was able to see elephants, hippos, crocs, and other animals, all from the comfort of a comfortable sofa in the reception. area.
The property comprises 12 tents, each with its own deck. The rooms are spacious and beautiful, did I mention? The rooms are air-conditioned, which is a big deal because it can get really warm.
As I mentioned, the staff are very, very attentive. They cater for all travellers. There is a honeymoon tent. Additionally, if you are on a family safari, they’ve got you covered.
Furthermore, there is a bar, a swimming pool, and Wi-Fi.
Sable Alley prices
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room. The price! Sable Alley prices range from £735 – £1,470 per person sharing. This price includes accommodation, activities, and meals. July and August are the most expensive and busiest months at this camp.
When I visited in September, I had to pay a supplementary rate, which is basically an extra fee for travelling solo.
If you are visiting multiple locations, I highly recommend the safari package and asking your safari operator to add the camps of your choice to the itinerary. It will save you money and time.
Sable Alley reviews: Food and drink
Here is what I can say: you will not go hungry at Sabe Alley. Dining is social and relaxing. If you are a solo traveller, they will cater for you. Because I was travelling alone, they asked if I wanted someone to sit with me at dinner, which was sweet, but I was ok dining by myself.
The staff are very attentive and want to ensure your stay at the lodge is pleasant.
If you want private dining, they can arrange it.
What to do at Sable Alley
Game Drive

The main activity here is a game drive, obviously!. Because of the fantastic location of this safari lodge, you will be able to see members of the big 5 among other varieties of animals.
People always ask, Can I see lions at Sable Alley? The answer is yes! This area is known for the abundance of big game, including the legendary Okavango lions.
If you are lucky enough, you might be able to see the lions stroll past through the camp, our guide said that happens from time to time.
Additionally, I have heard people ask, Is Sable Alley good for seeing elephants? Short answer: Yes! In fact, I have seen a lot more elephants while staying in Sable Alley than in Chobe National Park.
Also, I enjoyed tracking the animals, which felt like an adventure in itself.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed game drives at Sabe Alley.
Boat Cruise
Another classic activity here is boat cruising. This is a fun, relaxing activity; however, don’t expect to see much wildlife. The sunset is incredible. Additionally, you can opt for a mokoro excursion. I opted for the boat cruising and loved every minute of it.
Sundowners

Another classic safari activity is the sundowner. The ultimate safari ritual. This happens during an afternoon game drive, when you look for a beautiful spot and enjoy your drinks while taking in the beauty of the Okavango.
Guided walks
If you want to experience an African safari on foot, Sable Alley offers a guided walking safari; however, I did not participate. This activity is perfect for daring adventurous travellers.
Sky beds
Wanna sleep under the stars in the African wilderness? Not too far from the lodge, there are sky beds. It is such a unique and unforgettable sleep-out activity. That said, check availability, as they are not open year-round.
Lounging at camp
Sable Alley is such a beautiful camp; just staying there and enjoying its beauty is worthwhile. You can go swimming after your game drive. Furthermore, because the lagoon attracts wildlife, you can watch wildlife from the reception area. You will see lots of hippos and elephants.
My overall experience
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Sable Alley. I had the best wildlife sighting while staying here. Overall, I had a wonderful time on a Botswana safari, as always.
